young grasshopper, before I would screw with the alternator again i would have your battery checked by a qualified professional...lol...may save you some headaches. Just grab your brother or fathers battery and see if that helps any before you go get another battery.

Do as Master Brian has said and get the battery checked. If the battery is indeed toast, then spend the money and get an Optima battery. You can't go wrong with one of those batteries. Let us know what you find out.

ok got it figured out today, not a bad battery but junk alternator....
My brother had it tested when he brought it home from the junkyard and it tested good, put it in the car and like i said it would charge high, then just drop off. I guess it just finally shit the bed tho so now i put the old alt back on and will get a diff. 3g this week

Did you have the alternator tested? I'm willing to bet the voltage regulator went out on it. You can probably swap that out cheaper than a whole new alternator.

yeah i took it to autozone and it failed like 3 tests so its done. The good thing is i can just take it back to the junkyard and swap it for a different one for free
