I have been pondering this. What is the pros and cons? anyone done this?

wiring is different.....and depending on what year of the motor you are going with whether is CoP or coil packs, thats a difference as well. you will need to either have the pcm from the new motor to work with or have your old pcm flashed to match.

im a retard at forums...... i ment this for the rear axel. Going to the cobra IRS. My bad guys.

My suggestion, if you want to do this, find a Cobra guy who want's to swap. Most of the Cobra guys are trying to go to the solid axle. I would also really think about this swap before you do it. If the Cobra guys are wanting to swap, and Ford quit putting IRS in the Mustangs in 2004, is this really a good idea for you.

03-04 cobra's is what i would suggest but the 99-01 had em too but cant handle as much power as the 03-04. The reason why 03-04 cobra guys are wanting to do the swap is that a IRS will never take the beating of a solid diff i.e. drag racing. They are nutorious for wheel hop... and that was the biggest issues.... wheel hop+sticky's+IRS= broke IRS. I've seen a 03 cobra with a wipple and bolt ons brake it at the line with no wheel hop and stage 4 axles... He also had the girdle and everything to make it stronger. There was a member on here (adam) with an 04 built cobra with a factory IRS. His idea was, it has to have some give and didnt reinforce the IRS.... He never had a problem with the rear end that i am aware of to date... If you want a better ride, auto cross, road race or just want a IRS... Go for it!!!!! just a heads up though... if stuff does break it is usually more expensive, used parts are harder to find due to the low production number compared to solid diff's. Also you can make a solid do pretty much what ever you want. Coil overs, watts link, etc.
