Little electrical issue

Smelled something electrical last week, but couldn't find it. Pulled the Stang out Saturday evening and noticed the ampmeter was reading low. Checked and found this:

Guess the stock power wire couldn't handle the new 130 amp alternator. It's odd because the one that seized up last year was also 130 amp and had been on there for years. Guess the old wire just got tired of it. Ordered a new alternator and power wire like these.

1987-93 Mustang 5.0L 130 Amp Alternator by PA Performance at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

Mustang 4 Gauge Power Wire Kit Premium W/Noise Suppression 3G by PA Performance at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

Would have this in, but the shipment got stuck in Dallas with the snow/ice storm. It finally got out last night. Part will be here tomorrow.

Re: Little electrical issue

It kind of looks like the wire grounded on the side of the alternator case. It wouldn't have taken long to over load it and burn the wire big time. When you look at the big picture showing the stud and the main wire, it looks like it was definitely frying from the alternator back!

Good luck with it Mike!

Re: Little electrical issue

Dont worry about the PA alternator I have one on both the stangs and the wiring upgrade. They been on there for over a year on the cobra adn even longer on the fox just make sure to pay attention to where you run the wires they melt easy.
