RPM issue.

Just got my 87 gt a week ago and have an issue when driving. Car runs strong until about 4500 rpm that doesnt rev past that and has like a "sputter"...almost like a rev limiter. Had a Turbo Coupe T-Bird awhile back that did the same thing around 3k rpm, but was strong up to that point and then it would sputter, than continue strong. Turned out to be the TPS....could this be the issue?

well does it sputter and then keep going or does it just stop at 4500 RPMs

Didnt want to risk damage, so once it hit the 4500ish mark and sputtered I let out, but it didnt continue to climb before I let out. Like having a rev limiter set to 4500.

cause if it is a TPS most the time it will sputter for just a second and keep going. I would try the TPS first and see what happens

Thinking it isn't the tps. Jumped on it today and 4500-4900 it struggled to rev up and didnt go higher. Could it be a spark issue?

it could be...i have had some problems in the upper rpms myself...we have 68 gto in our shop that was doing the same...we changed the coil and it pulls like a sum a bitch

Think that MSD blaster coil is looking like a good "replacment" part for the current stock one. Have Ford 9mm wires and did NGK's last week.

How's the cap and rotor look? fuel filter Probably needs changed. These are the first things I all ways do when I buy a used car because, no one ever dose them. (wires and plugs too)

If you want a new coil, I have a mallory with maybe 10 miles on it.

Going to pick up a cap,rotor and filter this weekend. How much for the coil? Power flushed the trans and changed the diff fluid...huge difference. Shifts really nice and traction is worse.
