valvetrain adjustment question

first off the motor i have is as follows.

94 302 stock shortblock
anderson ford motorsport b31 cam
twisted wedge heads with stud mount 1.6 rockers.

here is the deal.
i just built this motor.i put the valvetrain on and adjusted it and determined proper pushrod length, got the right pushrods...

so i adjusted all the valves then put the motor in the car, once running i noticed the valvetrain was ticking,so i pulled the valvecovers and readjusted the valves,i put each cylinder on tdc and tightened the adjuster to 0 freeplay, then i turned the adjuster 1/2 turn and ran the lock nut down to touch the stud, then i turned the adjuster and lock nut an additional 1/4 turn to lock it down.put the car back together and started it and a few are still ticking.the top end is getting plenty of oil.is it possible i need to put more preload on the lifters?or does anyone have any other suggestions.i have done this procedure 3 times now and a few are still ticking.i have verified that it isn't the header leaking so that is out of the question.

thanks
mark

Re: valvetrain adjustment question

i did find that one of my pushrod guideplates has excessive pushrod clearance..it is allowing the rocker to move side to side causing a ticking noise.i ordered a new guideplate from summit yesterday and it should be here by friday.hopefully that was my problem.....
