Re: clutch stuff

To properly adjust a clutch, you need the complete package.

The only real option is what kind of release you want on the clutch (quick release etc...depends on the quadrant).....other then that, proper air gap must be achieved for everything to synchronize properly, and for clutch/synchro/tranny life expectancy.

This is a touchy subject. Most people have bad experiences with adjustable clutch cables because they do not set the adjustment properly. When I install a kit, I start with the firewall adjuster about half way out....and put roughly 1/4" of "wiggle" in the cable at the clutch fork....then I don't ever touch the cable again. Unless of course it loses adjustment or stretches (whcih shouldnt happen if it is adjusted properly)

From there, once you get the cable in the quadrant....you should be able to make your final adjustments with the firewall adjuster. To make the job easier.....it is WAY better to have 2 people doing the job....one person up top...adjusting the firewall adjuster, then engaging/disengaging the clutch....and the other person under the car measuring air gap on the clutch.

If a clutch is adjusted properly, everything lasts longer....gears are easier to grab....and cables do not break.

The cable breaking is usually because the cable is too tight....causing bind on the sharp edge of the quadrant....and over time it frays....and snaps. Also, an adjustable cable should be lubed every so often as well.... Under the dash....under the car. For best results.....remove it and install white lithium grease on it....and move the cable back and forth through the sleeve.

Hope that helps.

No go give AM some business

Re: clutch stuff

ok so i took the car for a trip to town, the pedal feel is much lighter and seems to shift pretty good. still needs fine tuning, grinds a little going to reverse, but it sure brought life back to the clutch
