1988 Autotrans help

I have a 1988 GT auto trans that only goes forward no matter what position the trans indicator is on. Any ideas? Please email me

Does the car still work in all gears? Goes in reverse? ect?

It only goes forward when the Car is running. When the car is not running it will go into neutral but I can not get the car to go in to reverse. The car was sitting in a garage for over a year the battery was dead had to jump start it.

Sadly from reading the second part of your post, it sounds like the tranny is shot. You may have to take it to a tranny shop and have them pull it and rebuild it.

Any one know of a good trans shop in New Jersey for these Mustangs?

Did you ever get this taken care of? If not, I have a suggestion. You will need pull the pan and check to ensure that the selection lever is correctly attached to the valvebody. If it correctly positioned, you should be able to cycle through all the gears.
