Uh Oh! Another build thread for me. 63 Galaxie here.

Well, I didn't get any time to tune on the stang today because I had the boys all day and they're magnets to the car when it's running. I can't leave them at the house while i piddle around the street and can't take them with me so,...........

I started tearing into the donor car for my 32V DOHC/4R70W drivetrain for the galaxie. I figure it's time to start a thread up since I'm spending alot of time on it now.

Here's the car now.....

I gutted the interior and checked the floors for rust. I have a few panels that will need replacing and a few spots I'll have to do some homemade work on but no problem.

The plan...

-63 Galaxie 500 4 door
-EEC V controlled DOHC 4v Teskid 281ci motor.
-4R70W OD lockup tranny for long distance travel and ability to handle the heavy car.
-possibly a small blower or turbo setup later on for more low end grunt but that's way down the road. N/A is fine for the beginning. I can deal with 280 hp for now.
-Fatman Fabrications front Mustang II clip with stainless control arms and power rack and pinion.
-Air Rides Technologies rear Air bar 4 link setup.
-Air Rides air bag suspension system. I hope to have the frame sit about an inch or two off the ground when deflated.
-17 or 18x8 billet rims with 4.5" BS and 245/40 fronts and 275/40 rear tires.
-Exterior trimmings and badges removed. Most of them anyways.
-discs in front and drum in back.
-nice cloth interior full custom (since there are no repro 4 door sets)with CD, power steering, AC, maybe cruise and fit my 5 member family.

With that all said, I found a 94 Lincoln MK VIII donor car down in denver that I picked up for the drivetrain. It's got an IRS in it but at full extension, it's 1.5" wider than my 9" in the car now. That means differnt offset wheels and alof of fabbing. I considered but think it's too much work for me and it wouldn't sit as low as I want it to. This car has air ride in it and all the creature comforts.

Like I said, I didn't get a chance to play with the stang tuning so I tore into this thing this weekend. I got the wiring harness all torn from the rear and up to the front kick panels.....

I wasn't in the mood to tear into the dash yet so i started on the motor and tranny. I got the exhaust off, disconnected most of the wiring and marked everything. I'll be making my own harness out of all of this eventually.

The car ran fine but had a bad catalitic converter that was shooting exhaust out of it's side. That caused a CEL and loud exhaust leak. No biggie, I'm going to redo all the gaskets and maybe bearings anyways. I thought it had a slight oil leak but it turned out to be a power steering leak. I then pulled a valve cover off to see if i could use a head bolt to lift this thing with. No go. need 1.5 feet more of chain to wrap from the tranny to engine bolt around the top of the motor to the front and under at the motor mount bolt.

It doesn't look like there;s room to pull the motor straight up and out so i have to drop the front cross member and suspension once I get the motor stabilised and supported by the cherry picker. I have to get more chain tomorrow. Then I'll hopefully have it out tomorrow. I want to get the drivetrain out, pull the dash and get the wiring out and then take the rest of the car to the dump. Then once the stang sells, I'll pull the galaxie in the garage and pull the body off and start on her. For now, I'll gather the parts for the motor and tranny freshening.

We'll see though. The wife's dialated 1.5 cm a day ago and can go at any time. I might be too occupied with my new baby daughter for a bit and these projects will have to hold.

I hope to show the motor out tomorrow.

Dave
