D.C. police chief says drivers who use iPhone to find speed traps are "cowardly"

D.C. police chief Cathy Lanier, frustrated that iPhone technology is one step ahead of the red-light and speed cameras in her jurisdiction, has announced that those who use their hand-held electronic devices are "cowardly" and "...are going to get caught" in one way or another.

The subscription-based software that has Lanier shaking her fists and blurting out names is called PhantomAlert. In a nutshell, its GPS-enhanced database of law enforcement "points of interest" mimics alarms similar to those common to radar detectors (remember, radar detectors are already illegal in Virginia and D.C.). Drivers are alerted to approaching speed traps and photo enforcing locations on in their iPhone, or portable GPS units, enabling them time to slow down.

Not surprising when you consider that the greater D.C. area is home to nearly 10 percent of all traffic cameras in the U.S., according to experts. Chief Lanier is frustrated that the innovative technology is "designed to circumvent law enforcement -- law enforcement that is designed specifically to save lives." What Lanier seems to be forgetting is that attentive drivers using PhantomAlert will be slowing down at all 290 enforcement zones... saving countless lives in the process. Hehehehehehehe

HAHA,
Bitch is just pissed off that the'll be losing revenue.
Safety? Yah right, Trust me that comes second to the almighty dollar.
Just like the "car pool" lanes here in liberfornia. Yah they used to be 230 fine for using them without a second passenger. Now strangly enough , they went to $380 fine?? Why?? cause stupid people think that they wont get caught. They know this and so they capatalize on it and raise the fine.
I dont own an i phone, but i aplaude this software.
'Course next thing they will be doing is forcing us all to place GPS traking locators in our vehicles if we want registration. Then they can just mail us tickets at will.
BIG BROTHER out to protect us from us, making billions along the way.

That is bad ass! I'm glad in Atlanta we don't have all that stupid shit like they do up in Yankee town. Fuck big brother! If they start coming out with GPS tracking devices in each car to track speed etc that will be the end and people will start going nuts. Oh and anything is able to get hacked so fuckem.

Yes, i have no proof but i would bet that all cars are "secretly" built with a gps already in the computers. Just need to turn them on. Id also bet that the system to track 250 million possible vehicals anywhere at anytime is also in devlopment. Its just the tip of the iceberg...

Yah sounds like I'm a conspiracy theorist. Maybe, i guess i am.

naaa Ford has the same thing with the Microsoft or whatever it is they are using. It is GPS tracking but I have never received notice from my Onstar of me driving to fast or whatever or my info being given to the Govt and it makes the family safe when I'm gone. If its just the wife and little one and they get into an accident and no one is around onstar calls them and the police.

Re: D.C. police chief says drivers who use iPhone to find speed traps are "cowardly"

I'm not saying it doesnt have it's positive aspects, but it does have a GPS locator. You can push the blue button anytime and ask them where you are and they can tell you. I have a duramax with onstar, and it does work.
