Help

Alright guys i need some help on this one. My girlfriend has a 1992 Dodge Shadow ES and it has been squeeling in the worst way. I thought i heard it from the alternator pulley, so i put some WD-40 on it and it temporarily fixed it. So i figured the bearing was going bad, so i replaced the pulley. That didnt work. It still squeels. Any idea what this problem could be? Fucking Dodge pile of shit!!!

Re: Help

Try putting some tooth paste on the belt.....the side that runs against the pulley and see if it gets quiet.

Re: Help

toothpaste or a bar of soap run on the grooves is another way. but if you sprayed WD40 on it and it went away for a bit i would say the alt. is on its way out.

Re: Help

Yeah I would say the alternator is going bad, or the tensioner pulley is going bad and not keeping enough tension on the belt.

When you pull the belt off, check all of the accessories and see if the spin freely and don't rattle or sound rough.

Re: Help

make sure the self tensioner arm moves freely and is not frozen
to check if its working properly start the car and rev the engine, you should see it move.
if it is frozen take the belt off spray the tensioner spring with WD-40 and move it back and fourth with a racket until it moves freely
