Engine Talk
If you are looking for information on a specific engine, you are in the right place. Hopefully we can all learn from each other on how to tune your car for daily driving and how to get the last ounce of performance from your ford engine at the track.

Why change tune?

Another site I frequent is wild about Brenspeed tunes. They say it takes away something called "throttle lag". But does a car that squeals Mickey Thompsons at every shift need a tune?

Re: Why change tune?

NO..........That would be a waste of money. If your car can pull itself when you give it gas on the track, then it is doing it's job. If you were to buy anything, just buy one of the hand held programmers, which will help you get all you can out of your car when you select performance mod, and when you are done you can just put it back to stock, or semi stock.

-------- added 2 Minutes and 6 Seconds later --------

and damn man, that car gets it on.........

Re: Why change tune?

Since I can't watch youtube at work, I cant see the video. But the S197 cars have a factory throttle lag built in since it is a drive by wire system. It was really noticeable on my car cuz youd hit the throttle and there was a delay before the car reacted. Just a babysitter for the average driver, I'd say. Anyway, hotwheels is right, even a canned tune from a programmer does away with this "feature".

Re: Why change tune?

that car is movin but you can tell there is just a bit of lag.that or its REALLY hookin hard

are you power shifting? that helps "hide" the lag.

unless you are near brenspeed or want to invest in a wideband stay away from mail order chips !!

Re: Why change tune?

I haven't tried power shifting- yet. Maybe next Sunday. The Mustang club has a dyno day in June, I'll ask about tuning there.

Re: Why change tune?

If you're doing a dyno day, I would get the dyno shop to do a tune for you at that time. It will be a better tune and get rid of anything you want at the time.
