Like concept cars Ford has debuted at SEMA in the past, the Cobra Jet Twin Turbo concept which was shown last week in Las Vegas, likely signals the future of Mustang high performance technology.

The 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet by Ford Racing showcases a new direction in strategy, leaving the torque laden and heavy supercharger aside, for twin turbochargers – a recipe from Ford’s EcoBoost engine programs.

While rumors have been abound for years now that Ford would offer a 5.0 liter V8 with twin turbochargers, this well crafted concept car is the first tangible evidence of such a beast.

With the 2015 Mustang coming very soon, it has become a known quantity that the large and heavy 5.8 liter supercharged V8 will see its last days in the current Mustang body. It’s simply to large to fit, to heavy to power the next generation Mustang.
