Steering Shaft

I am having an issue with the damn steering shaft on the fox. I have the flaming river shaft now but with the 351 and the MAC 1 3/4 long tubes the damn wont fit at all. Does anybody make one that works with this set up? If so please let me know.\\THanks

Re: Steering Shaft

what's it doing, hitting the exhaust pipe or the shaft isn't long enough?

Re: Steering Shaft

If it's hitting the exhaust, i would unbolted the colum under the dash, 4 bolts. Have someone pull the wheel toward the passenger side,it should give you almost a half inch of clearance.

Re: Steering Shaft

well the problem is that I have the header in place and the damn thing wont fit through the header pipe to get it back in the firewall side of the column. Does anybody make a smaller diameter knuckle that will fit through the header itself

Re: Steering Shaft

i know its not very nice to have to do, but some people have to "massage" the header in order for the shaft to clear

Re: Steering Shaft

Have you contacted flamingriver about getting on that will fit? I believe you can cut the shaft right by one of the knuckles and buy a new piece of shaft, cut it to the length you need and reweld it.....

any welding shop should be able to help you out.......( i am talking about the shaft between the knuckles. Extend it.)

Re: Steering Shaft

I have no issue messaging the header I was just hoping for a fix that did not require the BFH. But if it does then hey who am I to argue. DOUG I patiently await your response

-------- added 1 Minutes and 29 Seconds later --------

I was thinking about this as well. What if I split the knuckle at the top and put in a piece of shaft and then had it rewelded would it work?

Re: Steering Shaft

I think you can do it as long as you do a good welding job on it........Not a 110v welding machine, but an actual good welding machine.
