Road Racing ?

I know thor455400 started a roadracing thread but I didn't wanna jack his thread or anything lol. I was just wondering I plan on doing some Road Racing and Autocross race's. I read Hellfyr's reply to thor455400 and I was wondering I have a GT should I upgrade to the Cobra Brake system or will a new set of GT rotor's with EBC yellow's do just fine. If there is any other advice for me it's appreciated. Thank's

Re: Road Racing ?

Aww hell Brian, you could've posted in my thread, i would'nt mind.

It's all about the same thing. I always thought the GT brakes were kinda weak, but i haven't tried any on a course yet.

If you got the money i have always believed brakes were the first place to start. Anyone car can go fast, but can every car stop in time?

Re: Road Racing ?

I know there are other places, but check into Ford racing, they used to have a whole upgrade kit. Not sure if they still do, i will have to check into that.

I think im going to go with the stock pads and rotors form ford.

Re: Road Racing ?

Yea I think they do I think American Muscle sells the kit for around $1,000 or so. But my car has the extended warranty so I might ask my local Ford dealer if they can get me the Cobra system and install it for me. Maybe save me some money also. But if you find a place to get it at a good deal let me know man thanks Matt.

Re: Road Racing ?

Buying new will run you a fortune...I bought my whole Cobra front setup for $350 used and that was brand new brembo slotted and cross drilled rotors and brake pads and everything else that bolts right up. Spindles too. Go to www.corral.net and look under the suspension classifieds and you can find all kind of deals...just make sure the person has positive feedback. Good luck

I really does depend on what kind you get....there are some that are made for racing and are very high quality but a lot of people buy cheaper ones. Either way they are more prone to crackingand breaking because there is less metal on them and heating and cooling makes the metal expand and contract. I will stick to blanks on a track. Brake ducts work awesome...take out the fog lights and run dryer hose to the brakes to keep them cool. God now I want to go racing so bad!

Re: Road Racing ?

I started building the twin turbo car for road racing, but found for me, it wasn't affordable. Between having to drive long distances and the havoc raised on my suspension.

Re: Road Racing ?

I have always heard to stay away from drilled rotors as they crack very easily.
