Re: Brake Fluid temp rating?

i'm not too sure about a particular number, but from what i've read, any synthetic fluid will perform well

Re: Brake Fluid temp rating?

i am not a cone crusher yet but from what ive read 600 degrees dry boiling point is what they use and synthetic is the way to go. Wilwood, steeda and maxim motorsports have their own lable of the good stuff

Re: Brake Fluid temp rating?

Minimum dry boiling point on DOT 3, the stuff that came from the factory, is 401 degrees F. DOT 4 is 446 degrees F. DOT 5 is 500 degrees F. DOT 5.1 is 518 degrees F. The wet boiling point drops to 284, 311, 356, and 375 respectively. These are the minimums that each brake fluid must achieve in order to earn its rating. Many manufacturers beat these numbers, but these are the standard. The important thing that I have found is to keep brake fluid fresh. When you see the drop in wet temperature versus dry you understand why road racers bleed their brake system before every race. I have run fresh Castrol GT LMA which (exceeds DOT4) on a road course in the rockies with lots of tight turns and brake use without any boiling problems. I probably couldn't do that if it was a year or two old.

it can vary from one MFG to another and some MFG's have many different apps of fluid.

Motul has a race fluid with like 595 *F dry and wet of 421*F

their 5.1 is like 520*F dry and 365*F wet.

its "expensive" for brake fluid but it really works well. we ran the "Race fluid" in our dirtbikes. reduced brake fade GREATLY. made a BIG difference !!!

when I install the new 93cobra master/booster and add the 4 lug rear discs it WILL be filled with a high quality race brake fluid.

Re: Brake Fluid temp rating?

I boiled the DOT3 brake fluid at the Road Course.

Switched over to Amsoil Hi-Temp 600 Brake Fluid.
There is also a product called ATE-SuperBlue

If you alternate between the products for each fluid change (should do it at least yearly if you're racing) it makes it easy to see when you have bled out to the new fluid at each corner. ATE makes a Non-Blue fluid as well if you want to stay with 1 manufacturer.
