go with a fox body 5.0.

I picked my car up for 5k off of ebay. this is what came with it/or done already to it.

New paint
2-1/2 cowl hood
Put on a rotissery? and POR treated
New fuel tank with sump
New brakes and lines (already routed)
5 point harness
6 point roll cage
8.8 rear end rebuilt
c4 rebuilt with bigger stall converter (2800)
b&m pro rachet shifter
5" autometer tach, oil pressure and water temp gauge
subframe connectors
strange engineering struts on front
3 core aluminum radiator
caster camber plates
flowmaster exhaust w/ h pipe
battery box
painless wiring harness
stainless fuel lines and aeromotive connectors
underdrive pulleys
headers
eibach pro drag susension
lake wood traction bars
driveshaft safety loop
um... i think there may be some more, cant remember it all.

this is what i had to do to finish it;
run electrical
install windows
install exhaust
install interior

not a whole bunch to do, but like you i am in college as well, and during the summer when i could work on it, i coundnt. worked 2 jobs, and any free time i did have, i either was too tired to work on the car, or partied with friends. but i got it finished.

so x2 on finding a car that is underway completion and the person just got tired with it. and if you find something like this, you wont have any breakdowns anytime soon.

one additional question... ive heard that the 5.0's are usually cursed with transmission problems... is this something i should worry about? or if i were to keep it near stock would it remain reliable?

but seriously though... is the mustang's stock transmission reliable as long as its not having 300+ horsepower thrown on it?
what is the main cause of transmission failure anyways?

sadly, it will probably remain stock for a while (except exhaust) because im pretty inexperienced in mechanics.

depends on what trans your running.

The t5s are good with 300 hp and 300 torque going through them. If you go with the 2.95 1st gear ratio setup (ones on the cobras) your good to the 330ish mark.

As far as autos go, not too sure. I have a rebuilt c4 with some aftermarket stuff in there, and im sure that can handle some power...

Usually on t5s sinces us crazy people drive them like were racing all the time , you will find bad synchros, maybe some bad dog teeth, and perhaps a couple of gears missing some teeth as well.

But if your running just exhaust, and if theres nothing wrong with the trans when you get the car, you should be fine.

-------- added 0 Minutes and 50 Seconds later --------

oh, main cause of trans failure.... the driver sometimes the shop its getting worked on at... JIB..hehe

thanks man... thats the main reason i bought it... it looks awesome... but sadly, its a v6... 160 hp/200tq at the flywheel. it does one hell of a burnout for a v6 though.

currently residing in muscle shoals alabama.
