welcome! my best advice would be to find a car that is as close to stock as possible. the most fun part of owning a mustang is to modify it yourself to your own likings, not buying someone elses baby.

5k is a pretty good budget. you should be able to find something pretty decent for that much money in the years you are looking for. i've always like the v-8 powered notchbacks in those years

5k down plus a trade-in lets says just $2500 so $7500 off 15k sticker price for a low mileage, well kept GT or go mach1 or saleen with some more miles. So yer finacing $7500 divided into 60 payments with a high interesrt rate of 28%=161.25 a month.

So now you have some Sho with the go and a possible chance of still having a factory warrenty and greatly increasing the quality and quanity of Ass because you have an INSANE Ride!!!!

Need i say more?

ok i understand, but with a car....lets say 93 and under is already 15 years old anything that old for that price is gonna need some work, maybe it runs now but its sold as-is chances are a few months down the road its gonna some kind of repair or maintence even small repairs are going to be a few hundred. My starter on my 04 just went and it only have 50k miles on it, the price was $316.
Just remember or think long term you will need to put more money, bulk money on that in a car the older it gets. No matter what you get whatever it is "You get what you pay for". I'm not trying to bring you down just think long term and remember nothing lasts forever except taxes.

Fox bodies are the easiest fixable stangs on the planet. If you dont have LOTS of funds. Stay away from the modulars for now. Good ole pushrod 5.0 is what ya need buddy in my opinion.

have had my 94 gt for a little over a year now ,got a bargain at 3000 with alittle over 100k in milage have done about 1500 in mods and can now beat LS1 trans am and camaros , the tranny maybe a little on the weak side but if ya dont beat on it to hard it will last until you can afford a upgrade or a rebuild to cobra r specs
