Ford Racing Pulls Financial Support From The Craftsman Truck Series

Ford Racing has resigned with Roush Fenway Racing for five more years. In tough economic times for the manufacturer, they have reinforced the importance of keeping a presence in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series by re-signing the team.

But Ford will be pulling out of financially supporting the Craftsman Truck Series, starting in 2009. Jack Roush, one of the Team Owners of Roush Fenway Racing assured that the manufacture was still supporting the teams Cup program.

"Ford has made us a commitment for five years coming into the future that we feel is adequate to our needs for the support that comes from manufactures", Roush said before Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway. (David Newton)

Jack Roush has been with Ford Racing, since he got into NASCAR in 1988 and it's nice to see the relationship continue.

Roush Fenway Racing owns five of the eight Cup teams receiving support from Ford, and has a alliance with Yates Racing's two soon to be three car stable.

The single car team of the famed Wood Brothers Racing team is the only other full-time Ford funded team in the Cup.

Ford Racing's decision to pull financial support in truck was an economical one by the manufacture. It's the second one to hit the series, Dodge was the first.

While it is concerning to see, sure it will trickle down to both Nationwide and Cup. But really only Circle Bar Racing and the Wood Brothers Racing are effected by this, plus the part-time teams that run in Ford's and it doesn't hurt Roush Fenway financially.

Now unlike Dodge, Ford Racing will continue to provide technical support and engineering to the series.

"We remain positive about the performance of our teams and their dedication to the company during these challenging times", said Brian Wolfe, the director of Ford Racing technology. (Dan Newton)

Maybe once the economy gets better down the road, it looks like the manufacture may just have left the door open to possibly returning financially to help the teams.
