Jack Roush to be Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award

Yesterday it was announced that Mustang legend Jack Roush will be presented with the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award. The award ceremony will take place this Friday at the 12th Annual HotRod & Restoration Trade Show.

This news comes just days after Jack Roush Jr. won the Miami 200 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, bringing his father the 400th race victory for Roush Racing.

Previous recipients of the Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award include Wally Parks (NHRA), Carroll Shelby, George Barris, Vic Edelbrock, the Ford family, Alex Xydias (So-Cal Speed Shop), and “Speedy” Bill Smith (Speedway Motors). The award has been presented annually since 2002.

Travis Weeks, group publisher, HotRod & Restoration magazine said, "We are very excited to have Jack Roush as the recipient of our 2010 Robert E. Petersen Lifetime Achievement Award. This is one of the most prestigious awards in our industry because it is only given to true pioneers like Jack, whose love of technology and the automobile has been a benefit to all of us who crave performance."

Jack Roush has previously been inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame (2010), the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame (2008), the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (2006), the Mustang Hall of Fame (2002), and the Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame (1992). He was also one of five recipients, in 2010, to receive a 2010 Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich.

Jack Roush graduated from Berea College in Berea, Ky. with a degree in mathematics (minor in physics) before graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a Masters Degree in Scientific Mathematics. After graduation he was recruited to work at Ford as an engineer working on car assembling and tooling. He purchased his First Ford Mustang while working at the company. In 1971 and 1972 he taught mathematics, physics, and other automotive subjects at Monroe Community College in Monroe, Mich.

Roush is now the owner of Roush Fenway Racing, ROUSH Industries, and ROUSH Performance. His crate engines are used by many hot rod and Cobra replicar builders such as Chip Foose, Roy Brizio, the RingBrothers and Superformance.

Roush, who is involved with numerous educational and philanthropic activities, established the Jack Roush Motorsports Scholarship fund at Clemson University, which is dedicated to supporting graduate and undergraduate students in their pursuit of motorsports-related degrees.
