Re: did a little t and t last nite!
I will post video of my 96 getting the hell beat out of it in another 2 weeks...maybe even powershift it for a few runs. i hope to maybe have some DR's on it for some better 60's.....
I wouldn't go to a full out slick yet. with minimal mods you are looking to hurt something. with DR's you should be fine. you will have a hard time spinning them after the launch.

Re: did a little t and t last nite!
Intmdtr, depending on launch RPM and aggressiveness.....slicks are generally BETTER for a rear end then DR's are. Tru story.

Re: did a little t and t last nite!
Just think of taking off from a redlight as smooth as you can without spinng. Do so in a urgent manner. Try around your house. Get your feet used to giving as one gives. Get smooth at it and when ya go to the track utilize it and slowly bring up the rpms

Re: did a little t and t last nite!
Silver,
It is always better on parts to have instant shock, then cushion...then it is to have parts repeatedly shocking and wanting to hook, spinning, hooking. Severe cases are known as "wheel hop". Now this is depending on how you launch....if you take your car to the track on slicks and drop the clutch at 5K+....then yeah...it wont live. But if you are easy on the slicks and let them hook without throwing insane RPM at them....then they are way better for your parts. DR's like to wheel hop...and that is VERY bad on parts. Even sometimes when it feels as if the tires are not hopping....they are. Kinda hard to explain....but if you think about it you will see what I mean. |

Re: did a little t and t last nite!
i get it, i saw a 99 cobra wheel hop so bad the whole back end of the car was shaking, that looks alot more abusive then a car hooking up on slicks. wheel hop is like a jackhammer on your entire drivetrain.

Re: did a little t and t last nite!
i know i get some wheel hop when i slam second, i don't feel any at launch though, but i launch pretty easy, 2k clutch drop, let it hook, then mash it...
