4+ year wait and it's almost running again.
After posting my progress in most other people's topics, I decided I should start my own thread on my car.
I started my build after I had pictures taken of the car for a magazine article. I thought it was done but wanted more. It was a procharged 306 with AFR 185's, ported RPM intake, full 1 5/8 to 2.5 inch exhaust and was on 17X8 98 Cobra wheels and used a TKO. I wanted a drag car with more power so I tore it down to start over. I was at the stock block's limit for power so I went with a Dart 347 that is fully forged and boost ready. I had a set of Vr Jr heads ported and threw them on. I then had a Super Vr EFI intake and a 70mm turbo setup but changed my mind on it all. I sold the turbo setup and got a YS trim Vortech and swapped the Super Vr for a Holley Systemmax. The intake didn't fit with the head portwork done so I went for another ported RPM. Perfect fit. I sold the TKO since I was burning clutches and now have a built manual C-4 with brake and a 3000 stall converter. After I moved to Wyoming, I got a few parts for it here and there but wasn't ready to put it together. I had to rework alot of the tranny. I ended up finishing up the tranny and found my converter was wrong. Well, the car was put on hold because we found out I had degenerative disc disease in my C5/C6 and C6/C7 discs in my lower neck. That hurt. I had to sell the blower and a few other things to pay for one of the discs but was lucky my insurance covered it all. Thank you Tricare!!! I bought a bunch of tubular suspension stuff and a complete rear setup and let the parts sit for awhile. This last month, I've been healing fairly well but wanted to get the car going. I got the rear suspension mostly done, The new converter is in and the complete drivetrain is in. Where am I at with it now? Here's where the pictures start coming in to play. The rear end is almost done. I just have to finish welding the tabs on the housing and attach the ARB. ![]() I got the 3" X pipe and mufflers welded in. I just need to make some type of hangar for the rear of the mufflers and make some dumps. I have enough 3" pipe left over, I'll just weld a few angled pieces together to make turndowns. ![]() ![]() In this picture you can see the fitment problem with my steering joint hitting the header primary. I cut and welded the headers in closer to the motor to fit the car better. I didn't like the way they fit by the tranny X member and going down the firewall. I have the motor back an inch and down about 2 inches now since I repositioned these. I just need to fix the steering fitment. ![]() In this next pic you can see whare I have to position a pulley for better belt contact on the water pump. I thought I'd get away without but it slips too much even without the fan weight on it. I'm making a bracket out of steel stock and will make it look decent. ![]() Here's the motor installed and most of the wiring and accessories installed. I still need to wire in the fan, get a thermo switch for the fan, put the fuel regulator in and connected, Install the alternator fuse and wiring, put the MAF and filter setup in and a few other odd and end things. ![]() Shifter is installed and the housing is all on but not in this pic. ![]() More to come. My 3 year old is nagging me to play and my 2 year old is ready for bed. Dave

No you don't. Then you'd tear it down and be in the same boat. I wish I stuck with the simple shifter, flows, gears and springs on my car and enjoyed it. Those were the days.

This is probably true, I just wish I could GET [i]SOMETHING[i] done once in awhile. Yours is looking good, though. I bet you're getting a little anxious to drive it after all this time.

Oh yeah. After 4+ years, I've learned patience but anxiety is taking over again.
Nate, I already have an AC delete but it goes in the head holes that I want to use for the turbo mount. Remember, that big piece of real estate where the AC and P/S used to go? You know what I'm putting there. I need to leave as much room as I can for it. I have the pulley and a tensioner but I'm just hard mounting a pulley on my fabbed bracket and using the alt adjustment for tensioning. I didn't get the regulator mounted yet. I think I'm going to put it where I had it before, just above the old filter inlet hole....that I no longer have. I'll be working on it more on Friday and this weekend. I hope to get the turndowns done and hang the exhaust. I also want to finish up the ARB so I can put the welder away for awhile. We'll see what get's done. |

I talked with a guy that was on the assembly line for the 93 Stangs. He loved the color and wanted to buy it. He wasn't too happy when I didn't win best in the category and was beat out by a local sheriff that had a bone stock 01 Cobra with just a K&N filter. It was a friend of his that won but he still didn't agree and the show was put on by the local cops. That tells you there is corruption in the systems today.
I had my procharged car and a buddy had his 90 GT with a 347 and vortech. One of us should have surely had it in the bag but got beat by a stock 01 Cobra. Stupid. |
