DSS Motors

Does anyone here have a DSS 331 recently purchased or otherwise? If so how do you like it, was it worth the coin, did you buy a LB or SB and would you recommend the company to others.

I'm considering DSS for my next motor and want to know about their quality of work and customer service.

Thanks

I bought a fully machined r302 block from them and it was immaculate. Been running the engine for 3 years with zero issues. Been breaking other parts but the motor has held up perfectly. Also meanstreet on this sight has been running their 331 super pro engine in the 10's for a few years now with zero problems. Also his friend has a pro bullit 306 that has been running low 11's for like 5 years now. I also have a buddy that ran a 450 shot of nitrous on his new 306 pro bullit and blew it up 1st pass which ofcourse was not dss's fault. Broke 3 pistons and ruined one cylinder head. They did however replace the parts at their cost and not retail to help him out with the new motor which I thought was more than fair. They do use stock 5.0 blocks that will eventually break if you lean on them to hard but dss does seem to get longer life out of theirs for some reason, probably the better machine work and balancing jobs than what is available at your local shop. I will personally recommend them to you through my own experince and not just hear-say.

I also had a buddy with a 306 and it was a force to be reconed with. They seem to be a straight shot company. If it were me id get a shortblock and top it with some AFR Heads

dss's secrect's are their tolerances for lateral and centerlines are much tighter than other manufactures because of their cnc machines. it measure many more points and at frequent intervals in order to make sure the cylinders are tracking true with the crank centerline and front and rear deflection. also they chafer the leading edge of the cylinders to promote better airflow out of the valve and into the cylinders which promotes better flow, less tumble and better mixture for a more complete burn and flamefront acroos the top of the cylinder. i'm extremely impressed by their quality standards and meticulous designs.

Thanks Guy's,

I'm convinced. I appreciate everyone giving me their input. I'm currently running a Kuntz 306 and love it, but a little pricey. I'm looking at DSS for another Lx I'm building and it seems there in just about every article you read lately.

Thanks,

Rich
