Replacing Valve Seals, How Hard Is It?

Hey guys, I need to replace the valve seals on my wifes car. Its smoking(after idling for a couple of mins) and consuming oil like a champ. Its a 4 cylinder(not a ricer). The guy at the parts store says its a weekend job and not fun. How true is this? I figured just by looking at it, that it cant be that hard, everything is at the top. Do I need any special tools, do I need to take the head off, or just the valve cover? Do I need a helper? I already tried the oil additive to stop smoking and quiet values, didnt help. Any suggestions will be a great help. I need to keep this car alive thru the winter.

hmmm are we talking 2.3?
Id go get a rebuilt head and just swap them out. By the time you start dissasembling it youll realize all the worn parts and then just get one anyways. If you look around like ebay etc. you can probably pick one up for 250 or so.
That thing must have some miles on it. My ranger 2.3 has near 200000 on it and still holds oil well

ok I'm sorry, but I must have confused you guys. The car isnt a Ford or a 2.3L. Its a small Dodge Colt, with a 1.5L. I just thought I would ask for help, regardless what kind of vehicle it is. I figured that replacing value seals is the same for all engines makes. Again any suggestions will be great.

Thanks

i agree with 71hotrodpinto , i would just throw a new head on it ( depending on the cost ) But being a 4 banger that's not too many cylinders to preassure up. either way it sounds like fun , just not real fun.

what I might do is go to a junkyard and see if I can find a head and rebuild it and then just swap the head's one weekend.
