a little help

i know it's not a mustang, but i just bought a 1988 thunderbird for $350, aod tranny, 5.0 efi motor. the only thing really wrong with it is that the motor mount is twisted on the driver's side mount. what is the easiest way to replace it? all i've ever dealt with are *GASP* chevy's. i want a mustang, but insurance for a 22 year old around here is EXPENSIVE! Any body know an easy way to take care of it?

I would use a engine lift to lift up the motor a little and slide the mounts out. If you can't use a lift then use a floor jack with a piece of wood and jack up the motor a little by the oil pan. Becareful doing it you dont want to crush the pan.

I just replaced both motor mounts in my mustang about a week ago with convertible mounts. I just removed the nut holding the mount to the cross member on each side, then loosened the bolts that hold the mount to the block. After that, i put a block of wood under the oil pan and the transmission, and jacked the engine up. Took about an hour or so to change them... I did have to use a prybar between the engine and the frame to move the engine around to get the mounts out.... I had to take the fan shroud loose from the radiator, it makes it really easier to lift the engine high

My dad had an 88 back in the day. by the time he was done stripping all the excess weight, that car was wicked fast. he even took the sound absorbing materials out of the fenders. i'll get mine there after i take care of the mount and finish putting a radio in it. and the car still rides like a dream.

We did all that to my 90 notch. It was down to almost 2500 lbs.

i couldn't tell you what it weighed, but if it didn't help it stop or go, it came off. it was wild. i did get under it today to check it out. the front bolt was missing, and the back side of the mount was broken off at the bolt. i did manage to get one bolt in it to limp it home. COME ON PAY DAY!!! thanks again for the help.
