Roller rocker questions...

I have a used set of ported stock heads that came with 8 1.7 roller rockers and 8 stock rockers. they have a Ford part num but say Crane on them.

my questions... dont aftermarket ped mount rockers have to be shimed?? the 1.7s were on the exhaust side, IF I use them should I keep them on the exhaust or put them on the intake?? from what I was TOLD the guy who ran them before ran a e cam and nitrous but there were NO shims anywhere on the heads..should it not have had some with a e cam???

If 1 of the 8 ( first one I tried) dont need shims do I need to check the rest? I dont have a few shims and dont want to drive to summit to get them unless I really have to lol

Are these non-adjustable rockers? The lifter plunger needs to be depressed appoximately 0.060" while on the base circle. I would say if one is correct, the rest SHOULD be.

I put the 1.7s on the intake, but I doubt it makes much difference either way.

yes they are non adjustable, just the bolt down ped mount rockers. I THINK Im just going to run the stock rockers. I dont want to chance that they are all correct and really dont want to check each one. IF it was a full set then ya I prolly would but for just 8 seems hardly worth it.

besides I can just torq down the stockers and know everything is good to go lol

There is a guy here in town that did that to his Stang and is making a ton of power. It's a set up one of the local race teams/shops built for him.

Re: Roller rocker questions...

It is a fairly common trick to use the 1.7s on the exhaust because most Ford heads can use some help in the exhaust department. Thats also why you see split cams, i.e. more duration or lift on the exhaust.
As for shimming, it depends on how exact you want to be. If you don't care if the lifter preload is a few thou off, you could just check one. When I put 1.72s on mine, I needed to shim about half of the rockers to get the lifter preload right.

Re: Roller rocker questions...

Hey Mike Chris at wichita dyno set those up that guy but does not recommend doing it that way unless you are making big power with a power adder or nitrous. Otherwise it is kinda pointless. Just my .02 cents worth

what is "big power" with a power adder?? Im at about 425 with a few more psi to be added. IF he runs a dyno tho I assume BIG HP means over 750 lol

Yeah I decided not to run them right now. It seemed like a bunch of work for a very little gain. Im not trying to get every single HP out of her just yet lol. when I do maybe I will give them a shot or maybe when the motor gets rebuilt
