Afm Pms

Is anyone here running one of these? I'm just curious if they have any advantages over stand-alone FI. I was just looking and it looks like these are about $1300 all set up for big injectors and 3 bar MAP. Is that right?

That is probably pretty close to the price for the set up......you can find them for 7 to 800 bucks, but you have to search.

As far as comparing it to a stand alone, there isn't any competition...The pms is for basic tuning options, inline of the stock computer...

The stand alone allows for complete adjustment of everything. I personally would take a stand alone over the pms, but alot of times the stand alones run around 2 grand.

Is there some Mustang classes that require stock PCM?

The pms is really supposed to allow a guy to tune his ride without alot of time on a dyno (not highly advised) but that was the basis behind it.........where a stand alone, should totally be done on a dyno so that all of your operating parameters are set correctly, which can add up cost wise, very quickly.

Some dynotuners charge upwards of 140.00hr for tuning and 60 to 80 for pulls....A person can buy a pms, go to a dyno, pay for a pull and see how close they were on the pms parameters......where a stand alone at 1800 bucks plus 140.00hr for tuning could run a person (tuner experience a plus) around 500.00 extra bucks......so lets say, 2300.00 total for standalone verses 1300 for pms, 1 dyno pull 140.00 = just under 1500.00 bucks....

It sounds to me like some education is needed on stand-alones. Do you think it would be beneficial to start another thread and outline some of the capabilities, features and dealer involvement?

I have tuned a couple a cars with the PMS, not a bad system. You can save 3 tunes, and switch tunes in seconds. It is very user friendly, perfect for the guy who does alot of changes to his car. Would I buy one over a true stand-alone, no. You are still limited by the speed of the factory ecu. I watched a car with a PMS go 8.50 at WFC9, he said it worked better then the AEM he had on the car.

I have a new in the box PMS for a 96-98 Mustang and a Uego2000 wide band O2 I am selling for a friend of mine. We decided to tune the car with Diablo instead.

Lafinrat if you still have my phone number, give me a call, I will tell you what I learned about the PMS over using a chip. It's way to hard to explain while typing.

Thanks Jim! I appreciate the info. I was told PMS is way cheaper and easier than any stand-alone. I see that it is a little cheaper, but I can't see it being easier.

Another thing i forgot to add, factory EEC computers are MAF. Stand alone are speed density. You are very limited with a MAF car when making big power.

But with PMS you can eliminate MAF right? I would hope so anyway.
