how does the rear defrost work??

just how in the hell do rear window defrosters work??? I have power going to the defroster but no defrosing.lol lol

I have 3 rear windows that dont defrost and its pissing me off!!!!

The hatchback has about 3-4 lines that defrost but thats it.
The coupe has power going to it but not 1 line even defrosts.
The talons dosent work either but I havent evne checked for power yet.

on the coupe I replaced the rear window with a used one. there is a ground strap on 1 side and power comming in on ther other. can I just hook up the ground and hook the hot directly to the battery to test it?? That SHOULD make it work correct???

any suggestions???

I generally push the button and mine works..................

Have the windows been tinted or retinted before? Alot of times when the scrape the glass clean for tint prep they scratch the coating which will create an open on that circuit.I believe there used to be some sort of aftermarket repair kit to correct this.

use a test light you should get power across the lines all the way across, however it will get dim from one side to the other, it gets warm because of the resistance in the circuit, you will probably find small breaks in the lines that don't work, you can find repair kits at most parts stores, read directions carefully, 'cause it can be a real pain

Yep biggest trouble with these was stickers or temp tags taped to inside of glass and when it was pulled off it would take off the copper strip, look close at all strips and you will see a break or section missing. The repair kit works good if you get some 1/4 inch blue tape and put it on both sides of strip before applying repair to keep lines straight. This kit will also work to reapply the ground or power lug back to the strip.
I never did figure out why they did'nt laminate it between the glass.
