Which Alternator?

Sooooo........Last Friday night I go the the weekly Friday night cruise in. Meet up with other Mustang guys and hang out. We decide to go out and do some street racing. I do ok all night. On my last pass, I hear a high pitched squeal that last for second. Anyway, my alternator seized up and shredded the serpentine belt. So, now I'm shopping for a new alternator. The one I had was 130 amp PA Performance and had been on there for several years. I'm wondering if I should go back with the PA Performance or go with a Powerhouse? Let me know your opinions.

Oh..........I also got a ticket for engaging in a drag race. Court date is Sept 30. Guess that ends my street racing. I'll be keeping it at the track from now one. Lot of money out the window that night.

Re: Which Alternator?

I would just go with the PA since it ran good for ya in the past..............LMAO about the ticket, i got one of those too and the fine wasn't so bad (still high), but the hit on my insurance was for careless driving, which hurt my rate.....It was fun though, so piss on it. Hehehehehe

Re: Which Alternator?

Avoid stock Ford rebuilt alts, I went through 3 on the cobra in 2 years before I learned my lesson. Went with a NAPA gold unit after that, no issues since (18 months).

Re: Which Alternator?

PA performance seems to have a good track record, and I do believe American Muscle carries them and provides us with a discount....and free shipping (shameless plug)

On the street racing side of things....come on you know better...LMAO

Re: Which Alternator?

Sucks to hear about the ticket and all the other stuff that happened that night!

I also had a PA alternator. I loved it and the only thing that I had in my Mustang that drew a lot of current was the Black Magic electric fan. It sucked a lot of juice, BUT it would cool the car down really quickly also. I almost never used it unless I was stopped at the drive through or some really slow stop and go traffic.

I would just go back with what I had before. Painless and simple to install, and all the wires hook right back up with no problems.

Re: Which Alternator?

I will check on getting it rebuilt as we have a couple of alternator shops here in town. If all else fails, I will go with the PA again.

Yes, I know better than to street race, but I was very sure we were safe and taking the the safety of the rest of the public in account. It was like at midnight and no one was on the road but us. If someone that lived nearby hadn't called the cops............. oh well. Live and learn.
