Update on my car...

For those who don't know, I've been having a few problems with my '04 Cobra (actually, more than a few, but it's a long story). Got the long block back from the machine shop a while back. Assembled it and got it back in the car and running. The motor had a lot of valvetrain noise and I couldn't quite get it running perfectly. Well, through a process of elimination in my head (I didn't have a compression tester or anything at the time to check), I decided it was probably some bad lash adjusters.

I bought a new set of lifters/lash adjusters a couple of weeks ago because I found them cheap on ebay. Had the day off work yesterday and finally got the motivation to work on the car. I was actually pleased when I found a bunch of collapsed lifters in both heads. At least now I know for sure that was the problem. Everything else looks to be in great shape, but I'm gonna do a compression test this weekend to make sure.

After fighting the driver's side valve cover for a couple of hours, I was able to get all of the lash adjusters replaced. I still have to sand down the valve covers and repaint them because they've gotten pretty beat up from pulling the motor six times over the last year or so. But after that, all I need to do is re-install the valve covers and bolt the blower back on and I should be in business. I'm starting to get excited. I might actually be able to drive my car again soon! It's only been two years...

Awesome Adam, sounds like that was the problem for sure. Thats wierd you had lifter problems with such new lifters but at least you figured it out. Hope you get that bad mutha up and running soon.

I think they were probably in a hurry to assemble the motor or they let a rookie try to bleed the lifters down. The top caps on some of them were ripped apart, so it's pretty obvious that they weren't real careful.

I'm dying to hear the thing run again! But, as with any modified car, it still needs a lot of little things fixed before it's 100%. The brakes are almost metal on metal all the way around, the subframe connectors need to be welded in, the door bars have to be adjusted a little, it needs a front end alignment, I have to fix up the tune, the rear shocks need to be installed, the bypass valve on the blower has to be adjusted, etc., etc.

motor is out... and doin everything before it goes in... wiring, oil pan, fix the strut tower.. all that good stuff.. should be up in month.. month and half..
