Question about installing new springs

I haven`t been on here in some time. I`ll be installing new spring into my 97 Cobra and question is do I require a spring compressor to do this? Or can they safely be just jacked up by the A arm?

Re: Question about installing new springs

It can be done with out but its easier and safer with a compresser I think.

Re: Question about installing new springs

I have never used a spring compressor because I would use a jack under the A-arm and unbolt it from the car via the 2 pivot bolts at the frame instead of the strut. It raises the spring more even and doesn't provide the arched spring scare. It's tougher to get the bolts in but I like the strut in the way of the spring flying out and hitting me or anyone or anything else.

I've put on more spring sets than I have fingers and toes to count them all. Never an issue. Just use a big enough jack and not a bottle jack to think you can get away with it.

Best of luck

Dave
