Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

Here she is......

1957 F100 with a 390/C6 in her. Lots to do to get her cleaned up but I am happy to have a classic truck again.

I'm going to put the IRS from my MkVIII donor car in her and get a Crown Vic front setup to swap in. Then run her on some grey pony rims with the 390 setup. I'll keep the 3.27's in the IRS and I'll go with a 4 barrel setup and headers on the 390. Should be a fun ride. For now, I'll just pull a few leaves to get her down a bit.

What do you guys think???

Can't wait to be driving this and the Fairlane around.

Dave

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

Looks like a pretty sweet project. Going to keep the 390? I have been trying to come up with a plan of attack for the 390 in the Merc.

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

Yup. I was considering modular but this thing is strong. I just pulled the 2bbl carb off and found the intake is a 4bbl setup with an adapter on it. I think if I put a 4 barrel on it and open up the dual 2" exhaust, I should gain quite a bit of power. It's got the 9" rear in it so that'll stay and I'll look for a posi for it. I still plan to IFS the truck with the Crown Vic setup and I'll 4 link the rear.

I'm putting the IRS from the MkVIII into the Galaxie as it works best there. The 8.8 is still going in the Fairlane. I got a lot done with the 4.6 removal and am on a roll now.

I would like to go with an aluminum intake on this truck as well as a 750 Edelbrock and a digital ignition to get the best of it. We'll see.

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

One of the things I have been thinking about is the F.A.S.T. EFI conversions. I like the idea of the motor looking old school but don't know dick about carbs. Figured I can plug and play and enjoy.

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

It's not as plug and play as you think. I had the Big Stuff 3 on the stang and it was said to be easy. I needed help even after messing with the PMS and then swapping over with the simple (supposedly) maps to change.

Either way, just having the vehicle on the road is good enough.

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

You guys might want to look at the new Pro-M EFI systems. The one for the Foxbody looks great and I very seriously considering it for my next major upgrade.

Re: Got my truck home and waiting to mod.

The carb on the truck is much cheaper than any possible FI setup in a 390. The DOHC factory EEC IV will handle the Fairlane fine. I'm not looking for any monster power out of either of these. I'm done with lots of power. Just smooth reliability and clean sharp looks is what I'm after now. I don't like messing with the computers either so I'm screwed either way.

Thanks for the heads up though.
