Re: Urgent: EPA Threatens to Raise Ethanol Content in Gasoline

Wow what a debate! All I can say is this I have personally seen cars pick up big horsepower gains on it to include my own car.

Second I have no idea where you guys are buying your E-85 but in oklahoma it was on average $1.25 the 87 octane and just as readily available. As for taking long trips I agree with J&S my car has a 4 position flip chip in it with 4 tunes loaded to it 2 are E-85 and 2 are gas.

As for upgrade it is all about buying and waiting I planned to change to E-85 so I bought it a piece ata a time. I went from 60 pound in injectors to 160 because that is what the tuner recommended with the blower. I am using the aeromotive eliminator pump and my car already had braided steel fuel lines. The MAF I run is the SCT BA 2800 and it runs the system just fine. And trust me I have no where 1900 dollars in my set up for the E-85 adn the great part I can turn the switch and run straight gas without any worries.

The real reason I started running the stuff because after getting the boost issues figured out my car was not really streetable and I refuse to have a trailer queen on my hands. The E-85 runs so much cooler that my intake temps dropped as much as 85 degrees keeping everything in the motor alot cooler. PLus when I go to the drag strip I dont pay the outrageous price they are asking for race fuel in fact 110 octane in oklahoma is about 6 bucks a gallon I am paying way less than half that and I can drive the car to the track race and if all goes well drive it home.

We have guys here running well 1000 horsepower cars on the stuff and they love it consider the amount of money they are saving on fuel if you caompare it to race fuel. They are running C-16 at almost 10 dollars a gallon so they convert to E-85 spend a ton less money oh and by the way they are going faster on the stuff.

Hellfyr I have a 03 cobra as well and you can do the coversion for less than what you have down you just have to look around for the parts. Mine is in the process of being converted to E-85/gas right now and looking at my reciepts I have 600 bucks in parts and I have everything but my rails in so it can be done. Just for clarification the car is not stock not even close and by the way I am not attacking any one just making a point.

Everybody has an opinion on this stuff but think about this in relation to the corrosion you are talking about if you park your car for 3 months lets say while deployed and there is any gas in there what does that do to the bottom of the fuel tank. Have you ever thought about what might be in the gas tank of your car now form the storage tank at the gas station when the fill the tank with fuel all the sediments and garbage at the bottom of the tank are stirred up and you have no idea how much grabage is in your tank unless you take it apart every time you fill up. So bottom line the debate could go both ways I just dont like when people scare others way with information when it not accurate.

Thanks for the input.

I had the tank out of my car recently when I did the PPRV delete. The bottom of the tank was a clean as the day it was installed at the assembly line. Maybe we have cleaner fuel up here in Minnesota, I dunno.

As for E-85, they are getting over $2.20 a gallon up here... sounds like we are getting screwed!

Re: Urgent: EPA Threatens to Raise Ethanol Content in Gasoline

Here in Kansas, you can find E85 going for anywhere from $1.85 to $2.50/gallon. Wichita has the highest E85 prices ranging from $2.25 to $2.50/gallon. When I made the conversion on my 91, I picked up 15 hp and 22ft/lbs at the wheels over gas. The shop put an SCT Flip chip in when they did my conversion. I have one gas tune and 2 E85 tunes. The only changes made on mine were upgrading to 42lb injectors (running N/A here), a 90mm SCT MAF, the chip and tunes. I was already running a 190 lph pump so that didn't need to change. I don't miss the gas smell.
