Coming up on a year...

Last year on August 3, I went to a neurologist for daily headaches. It was a 2nd opinion and the 1st thing he asked me was "what do you eat?" So I started thinking about it and as he was asking questions, we concluded that the diet soda I was drinking to "help lose weight" was giving me headaches. I'm highly sensitive to the aspartame. So he suggested I cut it out for a few days to see if it helped. Starting that morning after my appointment, I started drinking water, which I had not done enough of ever, except on a hot day when nothing else worked.

After a few days and then a week of drinking 3 bottles of water or more a day, I had no more headaches! NONE!! I was so pleased, yet so pissed off because I "thought" I was doing something good for my body by drinking the diet soda.

Well, I've fought over the past year to lose weight, but it's been a much easier success with the soda out of the way. I can't even stand the taste of ANY soda now. Anything with caffeine gives me a headache, so I just stay away from it all.

I've lost 15 pounds just from drinking the water alone and NOT drinking any soda. I've never been actively into exercising. It's come and gone when I had time or ambition.. but now I'm soooo excited because it seems with the soda out of the way, the inches are coming off and the pounds are staying off, which makes me want to do more.

That is why I've been posting in the shoutbox that I've been walking. I sit at my desk for 10 hours a day 4 days a week for work, so by 5:00 I'm ready to get up and move!!

I feel SO good about myself right now!! I still have a way to go for my own personal goal, but I'm very much on the road to success.

If any of you guys have any tips on how to tone up.. especially arms, etc... I'd appreciate the advice. I am trying to avoid the gym right now just because it's extra money and walking is free.... maybe this winter when It's not so easy to walk outside I'll get to a gym, but right now I want to do everything I can "at home"

Good for you! I had to cut out smoking and I am down to 1 soda a day, I put on some weight, but my heart is still working.

Great job Tammy. If you want to tone the arms, hold some weights in your hands while you walk. One or two pounds is more than plenty. If Money is tight fill empty water bottles with sand.

Good to hear that you are doing well Tammy, and that you are excited to lose weight.

I have done the dieting thing several times. The last time I stood firm and worked my way down to 200 lbs flat. I want to be at 190-200, and I know what it takes to get there now.

I cut out sodas. Diet soda = The devil... Don't be fooled.

I stopped eating bread. I completely cut bread out of my diet for the first 2 weeks! NONE -NADA!~! Then after that if I had a really bad bread craving I would take a bite out of a piece of bread and throw the rest of it away before I started chewing the piece I had just bitten off. Bread is like Crack Cocaine! Especially after you have been dieting for a few weeks.

I stopped eating sweets. This one was pretty damn hard at first, but it got easier and easier, and now I really don't have any care for sweets. I eat them occasionally.


After my first month of dieting was down and things were going good >>>>> I would practice my diet 6 days a week, AND THEN, >>> one day a week I would set aside to eat whatever I wanted, and how much ever I wanted. Then I began to notice that I couldn't eat as much as I used to and my cravings for certain foods were not as strong as they used to be. I lost 50 lbs that year. It wasn't the easiest thing to do, but patience and determination will get you through.... Good luck, Allen...

Fuck that!!!!!!!!!!! Id rather be a lard ass and happy! As soon as I get off of that plane monday night in Qatar, Im at Chilis with a 12 ounce Medium Filet, Baked potato with a sickening amount of sour cream butter and bacon. Corn on the cob and 14 dinner rolls. Yay food!!!!!. If you want to loose weight get a contractor job here in Afghanistan, Youll eat like a slave and walk around in uber hot tempratures.

ANYWAY!!.. food isnt an issue with me. Sure, it's part of my diet and would help in the long run with everything else.. it's just the diet soda that was the problem for so long. I do eat healthier when possible and watch portion sizes and all that good stuff.. but when I go out for a good steak, I'm not gonna skip all that goes with it. Gotta satisfy the cravings every now and then.

The one night here at home, I made steaks.. but we had broccoli, cauliflower and carrots for the veggie, a salad and fruit. No potatoes. No pasta. Was very yummy!


I just need tips on toning up now....Like after my walks in the evenings, when I get home... what should I do as far as lifting weights, etc?

I wish it were THAT easy!

I dont have a steady partner though... so I gotta workout the "not so fun" way first :P

Dont any of you guys lift weights? Patrick gave me a couple suggestions above.. and I have a set of 4 pound hand weights here to use.. I just need to know HOW to use them.. reps, etc. I also have a set of resistance bands.. somewhere.. Hmmm, where did I put them when I moved? lol

Just like the Army Physical Fitness Test, Just like life. Although walking is authorized, It is strongly discouraged. Walking is not going to do anything for you, Run, You got to run. Not fast, Jogging even, But walking is like jerkin off, Its easier and less effort but in the end your just fuckin yourself. Check your heart, Go get a mild suplement, I use N.O. Explode but its not recomended, Something with a little creatine and go for it. Stop with the soda, Diet or not, Its shit, Period. You dont have to drink just water alone. Crystal light packets, Other sugar free little flavor packets you pour into your bottle of water and viola, You have a good tasting treat and they are pretty cheap. Avoid weights! Lose the weight you want to lose now and then tone, Using weights now will counter what your tryin to do. Swim, Its summer everywhere now, Not just cannon balls and shit but actually swim laps. You dont have to change what you eat, Change how much you eat. If you want a whopper with Cheese eat it, Not every day 3 times a day, Get a whopper junior for lunch, No problem. I have been dealin with overweight soldiers for over 10 years now and I have seen alot of them trim alot off. Discipline and work, All it takes.. No fuckin miracle pills, Work hard and youll be good.


Then have lots of sex.

As stated, I already quit the soda, all of it.. dont drink regular or diet. I cant stand the taste of any of it now.

Actually, my body, I think, is somewhat cleansed drinking all this water.. because I cant even eat sugar on cereal, like Raisin Bran or Cheerios.

I will work on your "instructions"....
