Re: Tires what hooks and what don't ?

I use nitto 555 dr. They hook good on the street and I think they are supposed to last longer than other drag radials.

They last longer since they aren't as hardcore as say an M/T DR.

Re: Tires what hooks and what don't ?

I did have the 555R's in a 255/30R20 and had the exact same problem thru third gear. Switched to the 305 Nitto Drag Radials and they hook really well at the track and will also hook on the street once they warm up. I dont like having two different types of tires for street and for track - mainly cuz I end up getting to the track about once a year. But I still want to be able to hook on the street. I say go as wide as you can with the Nitto DR's.

Yep that's my situation . I don't get to the track either , and don't want a set of tires just sitting in the shop . So i'll probably get a good drag radial in a 315 or whatever i can find to fit my 10.5 wheels .

Re: Tires what hooks and what don't ?

I had a set of 275 nittos 555r and they hooked pretty good on the street. The new nitto nt05r sound like they are a lot better.

Re: Tires what hooks and what don't ?

Mickey Thompson ET street's will hook like mad.. Just don't get caught in the rain with them.. Other than those i'de go Nitto... Crapitomo's are just that, goodyears suck, and bfg's are alright as long as you go g-force...

So what are you guys running with boost ? and what hooks up ? i've been looking at the NITTO 555R's .
Do you need these for street racing or for those random times when you stop in the middle of the road and try a street launch? Even with drag radials you won't hook unless you plan on doing a burnout ever time you want to start from a dig. If that is the case buy some Nitto's or BFGoodrich dr's.

For your safety, I wouldn't air street tires down to 20psi either. And doing a burnout will not help unless you have a tire with a sticky compound, like slicks or drag radials.

For evey day driving I would get a street tire that has a better reputation and quality than Sumitomo. Any max performance summer tire from Goodyear, Nitto, BFGoodrich, Toyo, etc. will do. For safety in the rain you are better off with a real steet tire. Ask anyone that has driven on drag radials in a real down poor and they will let you know how scary it is.

My car makes 400rwtq and with 295 Goodyear eagle F1 GSD3's I don't come anywhere close to spinning through 3rd. Then again, because of the irs's crappy rubber bushings I prefer to hit it from a second gear roll and avoid the nasty wheep hop.
