Re: Gremlin

Those speaker covers in the pic are for the guys S-10 (i believe). He's still messing with the truck.

So far, Mike has yanked the doors and fenders. H tried tapping out a dent in the door near the handle, but chris said to just shave them. He also started working on some of the rear quarter rust areas, which is what the picture is of.

Re: Gremlin

My first car was a 74 Gremlin with a V6. It was even that blue color! I ran it until the engine block cracked and the folks ran it a little longer after that. It rested by the pond until a local demo derby racer bought it for $50 and it ended it days there painted red. He had to put a four cylinder engine in it so he could run in the small car class. I watched him snap his stick on it a couple of times. It was an awful car. But it was kind of cool looking.

Re: Gremlin

My gramps worked at AMC, so there were a bunch of gremmys around when I was growing up. I can imagine it lasting long in a destruction derby.

I have some update pics attached of the work that's been done. Handle deletes, and ant delete, as well as handling a ton of the rust holes. Should be in primer shortly from what we've been told.

Re: Gremlin

Good luck with the project. In 71 I bought a new 304 Gremlin with a 3 speed it definitely was not a street racer but it was a fun little car. Later I traded it in on a 360 Hornet that was a total blast. MANY Ford, MoPar and GM hot dogs went home weeping from the sting of this little fellow.
With the Gremlin you have a great selection of engines to choose from, 290, 304, 343, 360, 390 and 401. A great plus is that All AMC automatics used the Chrysler 727 automatic transmission which was used behind all Big Block MoPars 361, 383, 426 (Wedge & Hemi) & 440. It is a great tranny and will bolt right up with all AMC engines with the correct flex plate. For all around performance, originality and ease of installation with less fabrication I would go with a 360, 390 or 401.

Re: Gremlin

We're going to back the 360 up with a T-5. If he breaks that (which I doubt) then it'll be a T-56 for him.

Here's a teaser of the painted car. I should have more Wednesday. Mike had a kid, so it took a lil longer than expected to finish the car, which was no big deal at all.
