Have any suggestions?

Hey guys im just tryig to get a list of things that i want to purchase I want to change the 1991 to 5 lug disc all the way around. Does anyone have any experience or preference on what you have used or other people you know have used. I want to have all the parts at the house before I get back since I will have all winter to work on it.

Thanks,

Re: Have any suggestions?

i do believe the best way to go would be to go to a scrap yard and pick up the stuff from a 94 on up mustang, spindles and axles with caliper mounts and such.

Re: Have any suggestions?

I have 98 spindles up front with 2001 PBR brakes. I had to use an adapter for the passenger side because the threads on the hose versus the factory line don't match up. Local parts stores have the part in Dorman.

The rear's are 11" lincoln MkVII brakes with ranger length 31 spline Moser axles and flipped lincoln caliper brackets.

Then I used a willwood proportioning valve and gutted the factory one with a plug. I could actually get rid of the factory one all together if I wanted but it's a good distribution block and it hides my line lock well.

When you get back, if you're interested in seeing what I have done, you can come on by and check it out.

I'm ready to give a hand too.

Dave

Re: Have any suggestions?

Actually I got the fronts from a guy that was gutting the 01 fro a full drag car so they were new. The original 98's I had up there were bought from Dallas mustangs or something like that as a kit for $300 or so with spindles and all included. The rear was from a wrecked 89 MkVII I bought at an auction to use the 5.0 from it in a 4 cylinder swap idea. the rear was a bonus but the axles were 3/4 longer on each side. I just flipped the brackets and it was perfect for two axles from one side of a ranger (they're the same length as the stang's are but only one side it) or the other side of an Aerostar. I have a bunch of pics and can ley you look it over. Just get home safe and soon.

Dave

Re: Have any suggestions?

This is in the 5.0 section, and will give you some ideas about what all you will need.

http://mjbobbitt.home.comcast.net/~m...tang/5lug.html

BEWARE >>> I had problems with my center caps fitting on the front of mine. I guess that they were off of a Lincoln or whatever, I had to trim 1/8" off the spindles to get my center caps to snap on. They were the really flat center caps... It sucked to have to do that too. So this is just a word to the wise, unless you are getting wheels with a little deeper center caps.
So the newer Mustang rotors may be the way to go!!!

Re: Have any suggestions?

Disc replacement is cheap and easy. You just take off the wheel, pull the caliper bolts and the disc slides off. Plus you have the upgradability option of the 13" cobra brakes if you want. This setup puts the wheels out at 8mm wider than stock so a slammed car wouldn't do great. I had C springs on with my 17X8 98 Cobras giving 1" of clearance between the fender and tire. I hardly rubbed at all. It was mainly when at a turn and it hit a hole or going up a sharp angle change driveway or something. Steering was much better and braking was greatly improved. I had to work the biasing because the 11 inch rears and 10.25 fronts were different than normal brake setups but it was cheap and works great.

I even got my factory 93 Mustang E-brake cable to work.

Re: Have any suggestions?

nice that would be a lot better than buying one of these kits that cost thousands of dollars depending on where you go

Re: Have any suggestions?

And I can just go to the store and get pads or rotors in stock usually.
