ok i have some coin to throw at the vert what would yall do.. talkin around
$5K... thinking about a turbo or a windsor but i think if i did a big inch small block i would be able to get similar power and have it be N/A granted i think it might cost a lil bit more but what would yall do..??

Anyway.
Nate,

I assume you're talking flywheel power. 500 at the flywheel should be fairly easy with either combo.

My opinion is to build the 393 low compression, like 8.5 - 9:1. With the right head and cam, you should still see 450-500, then you can add a turbo or blower to that later. You should still be able to run easy low 12's, maybe high 11's up here with a low compression 393 built right.

Nate,

I think you can get the long block built for close to $5k. Then you could put a carb on it for a while and run it that way while you save for an intake and stand alone.

If you're gonna do a turbo in the future, keep the bore small as possible and the stroke long. I think a 393 stock block half filled with concrete would work great and should easily go 11's. I'd use an Eagle crank and Eagle 3D rods. If you wanna gamble a little bit, use a cast crank. It will live fine all motor and be marginal with the turbo. The motor in Tony's car was all cheap junk and ran mid 11's with ease up here all motor.

I would have to turbo the 306. I have had a few different setups and turbo is by far the best for the street IMHO.

I love having the power ALL the time yet I can still drive it like the 13 sec car it was before the turbo and still get 24mpg.

with low boost (8psi) on a bone stock longblock I managed to muster up a low 12 @ 120mph FIRST time out and still has a lot of room to improve on. I think you could get what you want right away (efi,450hp, ect) and maybe still have a few bucks left over.
