Next problem

Ok, now that I got the valve prob worked out, heres my newest prob. Here in VA, we got a lot of water from Ernesto. A couple of times, I had to drive through some pretty deep water. Of course I never took my foot off the throttle. Now every now and then the car will "hiccup" and die, then, because its a 5 speed, it'll roll start itself. A couple of times last night, it acted like it was out of gas when I tried to start it. I just took the key out and tried again. It would start up. This morning, it wont start at all. It turns over, but it acts like it either isnt getting gas or it's not firing. How can you tell if the fuel pump is bad? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I don't know if you have an aftermarket FP that may be louder than stock but when the key is first turned to the "on" position you should hear the fuel pump prime the injectors, kind of a "whine" sound from back in the fuel tank area...When the car fires you should still hear the pump when the car is running, if not inside the car definately when you get out and lean down around the back of the car...If you don't hear the pump come on for a couple seconds when you turn the key to the run position it may be bad...Something else you could do to check if your unsure about the sound is disconnect the fuel line at the rail in the engine compartment...I would have someone help and just turn the key on for a split second not the full prime...If the pump is working gas will shoot out of the line, make sure to have a big towel and /or container or something and the engine needs to be cold...I think if you are careful and just cycle the key for a faction of a second you shouldn't have gas everywhere if you take precautions at the disconnected line...Anyway just a thought, others on here will have other ideas i'm sure...

Ok, everybody I spoke to on the phone said it was my fuel pump. So I dropped the tank, changed the fuel pump and........nothin. it still just turns over w/o firing up.No priming or anything. I've checked all the fuses, all wire connections that I could get to. Even check the fuel cut-out switch in the trunk. I've been flippin through my trusty Haynes guide, looking at the prints in the back and saw that the power for the fuel pump goes through "fusable link D." DO you think that might be the problem? I'm gonna try the fuel rail thing in the morning, but I think it's not going to do anything. I'm gonna try to get a multi-meter as well and see if the pump is even getting any juice. I gotta tell you guys, this has the funkiest prob I've ever had mith a car. But, I guess that's the price you have to pay when you have a hot-rod.

OH by the way, it IS getting spark. I took a screwdriver and plugged it into one of the wires, had my buddy crank the car and held the screwdriver near the intake so it could spark. About every 1/2 sec there was an obvious spark. Not blue, but kinda white-ish yellow. But definately a spark.

well, I turned the ignition on, and where I was supposed to have voltage at the pump, I dont. Do you know where the fuel pump relay is? It shows it in the diagram in the haynes guide, but never mentions it in the write upS. When I was at advanced auto yesterday, the guy told me it might possibly be that, but I cant find it.
