Speedo Squeak

I have an annoying squeak coming from my dash, and I am assuming it is the speedometer, because it doesn't go away with shifts. I haven't looked at the speedo cable to see the best way to get at it and lube it up. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what the best way to get at it is. I know my truck's speedo is electronic so I had to take the dash apart. I'm hoping the stang is mechanical and I can get at it on the tranny.

Replacing the speedo cable is kind of a pain in the ass. So what I have done in the past and I reccommended it to someone else on the board. Just drill a hole in the sheath of the speedo cable as close to the firewall as you can(just big enough to fit the straw from a wd40 can in) Squirt the wd40 in there generously and then wrap electrical tape around the hole when you are done. piece-o-cake.

I would recommend removing the instrument cluster and lubing the speedo cable from there. Buy a aerosol can of dry graphite and spray it down the cable sheath.

Dry lube is the best way to go. Have to remove the cluster and powdered graphite works well. Did the same thing to clutch cable and it wors like a charm.
