wiring harness questions

Ive been trying to find out whats wrong with my car since the conversion.

I used my 89 inj harness, what I thought was a 91 computer harness and what I thought was a 91 o2 sensor harness to convert a 91. everything plugs in and it will start and run however something IS wrong. it doesnt idle well, surges, vac is all over and its low on power for about 1-2 mins then it just clears up and runs great..

while looking into this I realized some of the wire colors dont match on the white 10 pin connector, and 2 wires dont match on the dash connector.they go in the connector one color and come out a different color..WTF??

Im about ready to say screw it and order a FMS harness and the inj/o2 sensor harness for it with all the sensors for like $400 lol.. I looked up the color of the wires that would hook up to my dash harness and thay match !!..... says its a direct match for a 92-93?? does that mean my dash is a 92 and thats why my 9 stuff doesnt work right??

does everyones wires come into a connector and leave the connector the same colors?????

Re: wiring harness questions

ok man i just ran out and checked the pin connector but i could only see the wires on top since its dark and i was holding a flashlight and a pen..lol
the colors are:white/red, red/white, green/red, grey/red, grey/white, grey/yellow, grey, orange, black/green, and black/white. I was going to check the 02 wires but the ground was soaked so screw that for tonite.
Now to check the wires coming out do i need to remove the white connector, all the wires were in the loom and i couldnt see them

wow thank you so much !! them are the exact colors I have going in too but the colors coming out the other are different... my inj harness is from a 89 so I guess the rumors of the inj harness being the same is not true!! might be wired the same but the colors are different lol

ya if its a big pain dont worry, Im pretty sure now that the computer harness being same colors as yours that it is a 91.... IF you could tho I would NOT mind knowing what color the wires are on the brown plug/dash connector to computer harness are.. mine dont line up and I would like to see if they all do that or if my dash connection is wrong..

I do know the colors of the FMS harness the dash connector is same as my dash but for some reason the harness I have in there dont.

from what I have always seen/herd if ya dont use the correct harness ya know it cuz it either dont plug in or dont start, it does both lol

Thanks again man !!

4 cyl conversion.. I put my 89 motor with the inj harness on it in a 91 with what I think is a 91 v-8 computer harness but there seems to be a issue.

car ran perfect in the 89 only changed the wiring harness no sensors etc.

I can't believe it ran without swapping the body harness. Or the dash harness.

I left the 91 body and dash harness, added a 91 v-8 computer harness to the car and everything on the car should be 91,,, except the inj harness which came out of the 89...I think that is my issue..

Re: wiring harness questions

I did some asking around and was told its not the colors that matter so much as long as the wires run to the correct sensors/EEC pin.. and the wires do change colors from the factory.

I can get a 60 pin breakout box and check every pin to make sure its connected to the correct sensor and is hooked up/reading correctly. they dont cost much and I want one anyway so I think Im gonna get one either way.

OR I could get real and I mean REAL lucky and Jason could tell me his colors are the same as mine on the inj harness too (he already checked and the computer side does... THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT!!)..

IF both mine DO match both his then its NOT a wiring problem

IF both DONT match I either have to find the correct injector harness that matches his OR find which wires are wrong and correct the issue.

Re: wiring harness questions

i will see if i can get a look at it here in about an hour when i lay the boys down for their naps. I'm hoping for your sake the wires match up because that would be a bitch trying to trace down the correct wires

Re: wiring harness questions

ok i got a look at the bottom wires. Now the browns, greys, and blacks all kind of look alike so bear with me.
the main wire in the middle is grey/red. the others are orange, red/white, white/red, green/black, brown/yellow, green/red, black/yellow, black/green, and brown/red
