Re: 351 heads on a 302

the older 351W heads had bigger ports and factory valves. The headers for a 302 will bolt right up to a set of 351W heads on a 302. The only differance for the 302 and 351 headers was the deck height issue of the 8.2 deck 302 vs the 9.5 deck of the 351W. With that said the dimensions of the heads for the headers are identical bolt hole to bolt hole and from the deck of the head to the bolt hole.

Other plus is the older 351 heads have a straighter shot on the intake runner(not as big of a push rod bump), needs less porting and no smog bumps to deal with. Do a clean bowl poring and blend the rest of the runner. You will be happy with the results and can save a ton of cash doing it yourself. If you have to pay someone to do it you might as well buy a set of aftermarket aluminum heads.

ere are some hard numbers for you on the heads. Factory 302 head intake dimensions 1.94 x 1.04 inches int runner opening, 1.24 x 1.00 exh runner opening with 1.78 int and 1.46 exh valves. The older 351W heads casting numbers D00E, C90E (pre 74 stuff I believe) is 1.94 x 1.76 int runner opening, 1.24 x 1.00 exh and 1.84 int and 1.54 exh valves. The cambers difffer from casting number to number, 351W stuff being 60-69cc depending on what casting you go with.

As for the Clevor combo, forget it. Unless you are building a yates headed race motor like mine its a waste and you will end up lossing more performance then you would gain with a complete windsor set up matched to your needs. Look at the cleavland heads, they have huge ports but are just a turd on the velocity and unless you plan on spinning your steet car over 8000 rpm like our race motor its a waste of your time.

I stated earlier 351W will work... but the money to invest in them to clean them up leads you to purchasing a set of Twisted Wedge Aluminum heads right out of the box...

Then we discussed the Cleavor option...

I wouldn't run 4V Cleveland heads on anything but a restoration Boss '69/'70 car... it is pointless. Good luck finding a set of them anyways... They are worth their weight in gold... and gold you will give up to buy a set. The Australian heads and 2V heads are a different possibility if you are willing to up compression to 11.0 and run a custom cam. There are intake options out there to make it work! They will outflow just about anything short of a full on RACE head with some minor clean up. Unfortunately you may go through a set of 8 of them to find two good heads because of cracked seats... these were pre unleaded fuel heads!

I disagree that you will have to spin them up to 8,000 rpm to see anything out of them. It is all in how you pursue a balanced package/combo, and you can indeed make it streetable. This setup is not so unique that camshaft companies can't work with you. A blow thru carb setup /Turbo/Supercharger would love these heads if compression was reduced to 8.0 (Just a thought).

Re: 351 heads on a 302

yeah we finally went and checked out these heads and it was a total joke. The heads were rusted to shit and needed totally rebuilt and he still wanted 100 bucks for them. He told us they were the "winzler" heads..lol and they would make your 302 a BOSS motor

Again... not to beat a dead horse... Comprehension skills are needed when reading. Edjumikation is a gud thang.

Look at the bolt holes for the exhaust... See the difference yet?
I should have been more specific. I and my brother both had 351w heads on our cars and they worked fine.

Thanks for not being a huge ass hole, but apparently I am not all knowing like you.

I keep getting e-mails that I never post on this site. People like you are the reason why.

I am reknowned for being a partial asshole... forgive me. Us military types are reknowned for being like that some of the time.

My Southern California education was affected by the Morally Bankrupt State giving away an education to most of the third world for FREE (when they jumped that fence)... so comprehension skills are a big deal to me. I also have been playing with Fords a long time (since 1975). I still learn stuff too, and am in no way an expert as a self taught gear head (no ASE certification).

It is all good... trying to help another gear head out.
