28oz or 50oz flywheel

ok i have another question for my brother. He is currently running a C4 behind a 302 and it shakes when its in the lower RPM's but comes out of it when the motor revs. My car did the same thing when i was running the wrong flywheel. His question is is there an easy way to identify the flywheel without completely removing it.
Oh and it is a smaller diameter flywheel than what he originally had because the first one wouldnt clear the bellhousing.

Re: 28oz or 50oz flywheel

He may have to go to who ever he bought the flywheel from and find out the balance....If he got it from a salvage yard, find out what it came out of and i will see if i have the information in my database. One day i will get all our tech data back online, but there is just so much, it haven't really had the time.

Re: 28oz or 50oz flywheel

yeah he did the swap last year and it was just too damn long ago to remember any info from it. I was helping do like 2 or 3 ford engine swaps so all the numbers just kind of ran together. I thought we had double checked the flywheel since we had just changed mine out but hell we cant remember

Re: 28oz or 50oz flywheel

If it's been a couple years, i would assume that the problem may be fairly new. If that is the case, you may want to have him look at his u-joints and actually move them around by hand and see if there is allot of movement in them. If not, have him check his dampner on the front of the engine. The mustang dampners are notorious for failing and causing a full drivetrain vibration. The rubber oring on the dampner tends to go bad, and causes the bad vibration. You can usually tell by looking at it if the rubber is cracked, missing pieces of it, or just plain broken. A new one runs in the 50 dollar range and i just bought one for my vert from our local autozone.

Re: 28oz or 50oz flywheel

OK now are the ford motors internaly or externally balanced? One of my buddies said they are externally balanced so if i have a 50ounce flywheel on a 280z motor that all i have to do is switcht he harmonic balancer to a 50oz and it will work. I dont know about that. So what you guys think.
