Bought an 1985 SVO a little while back

Hi guys. I've had my head in the sand for the past three months. Glad to be back again.

Last October I brought home a $1200 1985 Mustang SVO. I've always wanted one because they were so unique. This one is one of 193 painted this color with the cloth interior. I've been cleaning it up and doing some small things since I've been back. I want to restore this car very much stock apearing since there are not many of them on the road anymore. It'll be a neat car to zip around in.

An update to the above...

I finally got around to installing some of the parts I've been accumulating over the past few months. I began by scrubbing the block with WD-40 to degrease it and cleaned it up so it'll take some paint. I installed my self ported head and 86 intake manifold. Also many of the brackets that I've bought and cleaned up the past few months. Hardware is a pain since I never took it apart, so I really dont know what goes where. Many small things are still missing that I'm only figuring out as I move along.

The exhaust manifold a ported E6. My turbo is has just been rebuilt. That'll be a nice piece of mind towards getting the car running. I still need an complete exhaust, electric fan, intake box and a lot of wiring to sort out.

The rest of the engine bay still looks like hell. Once I get it running I'll worry about the rest of the cosmetics. Hopefully it'll only be another month or two until I'm ready to turn the key.

Here's a before shot. (Last October)

Here's a quick mockup with the new turbo and intercooler.

Since I was at a major stopping point towards getting the car running I figured that I'd tackle the interior on the SVO today. I redyed the interior pannels with some SEM Graphite paint and installed a new carpet. I included a pic of before and after of the rear quarter pannels. I wish they were in better shape because they had some signs of flaking around the window holes. The texture has gone so it doesnt quite match but its way better than nothing. The ACC carpet was a pretty big disapointment. Didnt fit very well at all, especially in the rear passengers footwell area. It was worse than the last carpet I bought from them for the GT only about 4-5 years ago. Pretty sad. The rear hatch carpet from Sacremento Mustang was even worse. Glad I only paid $16 for it on eBay. I did the best with what I had. The pictures show a lot more gray contrast than there actually is. Must have been a flash thing because it was getting dark while I took the after pics. I still have some seatbelt and console things to finish up. I need to find some nuts that hold in the front seats. All I can find in the yards is the bolts. At least the hard part is done.

Here's a quick shot of what it was like when I brought it home.

Here's todays work.

Awesome man! I've got an '84 SVO that needs a lot of work, too. I'm going to be doing most of the stuff you did to my car this summer. Mine only has 45k miles, but everything is corroded from the car sitting for so long back in Pennsylvania. I'm actually buying a sand blast cabinet this week so that I can start stripping down all of the engine parts. Keep us updated!
