Wtf?

Seriously, just put the other tranny in the son's car last weekend. Now, that one quits today. It is full on the fluid, you can select a gear, but it will not drop into gear. It's the exact same issue we had with the other tranny. Any ideas? I'm trying to decide if we want to have this one rebuilt by a shop or if we want to get the parts and put the C4 for the 351 in now. Stinger Performance Engineering makes an adapter plate that will put any 5.0 tranny behind a 2.3 for $190. We would have to get that and a shifter for it. If anyone has any idea what the problem might be, let me know.

Re: Wtf?

ya I had the same issue with the 91 hatch when it was 2.3/auto. The 2nd trans lasted about 3 weeks before it went south. It was like every gear was NET lol NO local yards had or could get one so I was S.O.L.

I could NOT get a good price on a rebuild, local shop wanted around $1100

IF the trans is ready to go in and is a good trans, the adapter would be cheaper then a rebuild. Unless the 351w is ready too then I would swap them both but even if you wait and build the 351w your only "out" the $190 for the adapter and not the full cost of a rebuild..

to be honest even IF the C4 isnt ready it would prolly cost less to build it up good, and get the adapter then it would cost to redo the 2.3 auto. Then you can just put the 351w in when your ready and the trans will all ready be there.

Re: Wtf?

The 351 is not ready to go and he is not ready for it. The C4 is supposed to be ok with only 15,000 miles on it. I'm thinking that with the adapter plate and shifter it would only by $550 or so to put it in his car. I haven't priced it yet, but I think a rebuild will be around $1000.

550 sounds much better then 1000 to me lol. then you only have to swap in the 351w when he is ready for it

The only "issue" I can think of would be the converter and how well it fits/works with a 2.3L

Re: Wtf?

Just talked to my trans shop guy today. He thinks the pump went out and all it needs it a master rebuild. The pump probably went out due to the original tranny not being securely bolted to the motor. There was a 3/16th's gap between the bellhousing and the block. Every bolt was finger loose. It was probably enough to pull the converter away from the pump and burn up the pump. He's talking $425 for the rebuild.

He does know how to drive a stick. Probably one of the few 16 year olds that does know how to drive a stick. The car is already an auto and he doesn't have the money to convert it over to a stick. I also don't feel like messing with it. I listen to all the stick guys on here about all the work they are always having to do on their stuff and think I will stick to my auto.
