frozen E-brake cable

So it started this week. Every morning even after I let it warm for about 15mins. my car was acting up. When I would shift gears it wouldnt want to. It was hard to start in first gear and keep going. When i put it in neutral it would just stop without me putting the brakes on. Then after driving it for like 5mins. I would hear a pop and then it would drive fine. So yesterday it was really bad. When I stopped or started it sounded like my tires were skidding. YES!!!!!!!!! MY E-BRAKE WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN!!!! I KNOW WHAT UR THINKING, BUT IM NOT THAT STUPID. Anyways, so come to find out my e-brake cable was frozen. So I had it adjusted yesterday. Guess we will find out if that does the job. Have any of you guys had this kind of problem? Know any quick fixes in the A.M.?

I'd say that's uncommon on that new of a car. I've seen a lot of sticky cables on older cars/trucks tho. I've also seen the calipers stick and cause the same issue.

Are you sure it's the brakes? My brother bought an '07 GT brand new and the rear end locked up on him at like 500 miles. From what I've heard, it's a fairly common problem on the new Mustangs. His did the same thing you're describing. It locked up and then would pop and free up. It made a hell of a lot of noise, though, too. My '06 GT's rear end is a little noisy when going around corners, but I haven't had a problem with it yet (11,000 miles).

There is a TSB out on this. Take it to the dealer, and they will replace your e-brake cables. The old cables allow water to get into the rubber boot, and they freeze.

Reading your other thread, it may be why your rotor cracked too...If the cable was frozen, and you drove it a while, it could have caused excessive heat in the rotor. I'd have them thoroughly check your rear brakes while they're replacing the cable.
