Cam advice?

I want some different cams for my '00 Police Interceptor. Browsing through the list of Comp Cams, I found a set I like the looks of, but in the notes section it tells me that bolt-on cam gears are required. I have never been under the cam covers of this motor to know what I have. Do '00 Crown Vic 4.6s have bolt-on cam gears? It also says that they are not what they call "Computer-Controlled Compatible". Cam I use them anyway, or will they completely confuse the computer?

I'm looking for a simple cam swap to get a real lopey idle and a little more power higher in the range. I don't wanna dig into the computer too deeply; just a reflash to get everything singing the same song, you know?

Am I asking too much? Advice?

yep bolt on gears. the gears and spacers from a set of romeo cams will work.

i don't know anything about tuning a vic but i would guess an sct custom tune will fix the confused computer

Cool. I'll call 'em. How big a pain in the ass is a cam swap on a 4.6 anyway? Never messed with OHC stuff before...

LOL. Comp cams probably don't know half the stuff I know or most of others that HAVE done the cams swaps.

You want a nasty idle? power? Drivabilty? Who is going to put the cams in? You doing to degree them?

I want everything done right... That said, I think I'll tackle the work as long as I have a good source of reference material. I'm sure I can figure it out.

And yes. I want the nastiest idle I can get outta this car and still retain some semblance of driveability. I'll take the hit in torque loss down low. The car is going on a serious diet this summer anyway. It'll end up as light as my GT or better.

What grind do you recommend? Could I have the stock cams reground to get the desired effect? I know I'd sacrifice valve lift, but with my setup, who cares? Yup. I'm that guy... with this car, I just want the sound.
