Have a couple problems & need advice

I have a '96 GT w/'99 GT motor. Car overheats, the intake was replaced just before my son died, and has been sitting since. I replaced the thermostat, and can't get that to stop leaking now(any tricks?), but it still over heats. I'm told the '96 cooling systems are weak, if so what aftermarket radiator should I get, and what's the difference between all of them (Fluidyne?). Or do I have to just flush it, and replace what ever sensors it may have for this? It will have a KB on in the near future, so should I do something aftermarket to prepair for that? Also seeing that it's been sitting for almost two years, I see evidence of mice nesting in the dash. WTF!, do I do about that? Do I have to rip out the whole dash and duct work to clean it out? That seems like it would really suck balls (in a bad way). Anyone been there? What do you do? I have to get it running right so I can get the suspension, and all these other mods installed asap. Thanks, Pete

um...dont know about the motor problem. But it seems that you may have to pull the dash for that. At least I would. That way you can make sure everything is out of there. I was watching Pimp My Ride once, and they had some girls car, they pulled the dash out, and there was one of the biggest rats i have ever seen just living in there. Besides, dont want to turn the blower on, and have mouse terds flyin all around the place...

I would say check and see if you put the termostat in backwards in fact I would take it out all the way jam some water in there just to make sure it not the termostat. I have a 97 and the cooling system only over heated once it was 120 out and I was in a drive through with the A/C on just sitting there. Rats like to chew the coating off wires so check all the wire out that could be your cooling problem as well if they chewed the fan wires

Friend of mine has a '91 Vette with over heating problem; tried everything, sensors, etc. Finally put on a new radiator cap and guess what!

I had a 96 that I did the PI swap to and never could get the car to run at a normal temp so I took a radiator flush kit and put it in the heater core line and back filled the block to get the air out and never had another problem. As for upgrading the radiator in preparation for the KB let me say this. I have a 5.0 with a KB and until the guy I bought the car from put a golf ball sized whole in the stock radiator it ran the car at normal temps even under heavy load of 13 lbs. Now the car has a ford racing 3 core aluminum radiator in it and I cant the damn car to get hot enough to open the thermostat to get it out of open loop. So I would say spending the money on a fluidyne or griffin is not nescessary but if you have the money to spend then by all means it is your money.

That's cool, I'll grab a flush kit and cap, and see what happens. I'm all for saving the money on a radiator. Does anyone know how to get the o-ring gasket to stop leaking on the thermostat housing? I know it's in the right way I just can't stop the leak, and I'm affraid of breaking it if I go any tighter.
